După doi ani de pauză impusă de pandemia de coronavirus, ceremonia de decernare a Premiilor Oscar a revenit în 2022 la formatul clasic, cu invitați, covorul roșu și ... scandal.

Marea gală a cinematografiei s-a desfășurat la Teatrul Dolby din Los Angeles, în prezenţa vedetelor şi artiştilor nominalizaţi.

Lungmetrajul „CODA” a câştigat premiul Oscar pentru cel mai bun film.  Will Smith a fost recompensat cu premiul Oscar pentru cel mai bun actor în rol principal la cea de-a 94-a gală de decernare a trofeelor atribuite de Academia de film americană, graţie interpretării sale din lungmetrajul „King Richard”. Jessica Chastain a obținut premiul Oscar pentru Cea mai bună actriţă în rol principal, graţie interpretării sale din filmul "The Eyes of Tammy Faye".

Troy Kotsur a devenit primul actor cu deficiențe de auz care a câștigat râvnita statuetă pentru Cel mai bun actor în rol secundar, în filmul „CODA”. Ariana DeBose a obținut Oscarul pentru Cea mai bună actriță în rol secundar, pentru prestația din „West Side Story”.

Cineasta neozeelandeză Jane Campion a primit premiul Oscar pentru Cea mai bună regie pentru filmul „The Power of the Dog”.

Evenimentul a fost marcat de iesirea nervoasa a actorului Will Smith care a mers pe scena pentru a-l pălmui pe prezentatorul Chris Rock care a facut o glumă proastă despre starea de sănătate a soției a actorului, diganosticata cu o boala degenerativa ce ii cauzeaza caderea parului. Actorul si-a cerut iertare pentru iesirea sa nervoasa iar victima sa, Chris Rock, a declarat ca nu va depune nici o plangere impotriva acestuia.
